Why We Keep Talking About Prep Coat
What does Prep Coat do?
Prep Like a Pro for Perfect Limewash Walls
Designed to breathe with your walls, our Prep Coat balances texture and tone, the natural way to prepare for limewash.
What Is Prep Coat and What Does It Do?
Should I use Prep Coat if my walls are already painted with white matte emulsion?
Can I use Prep Coat on wood surfaces before applying limewash?
Can I use Prep Coat on new plaster?
Yes, you can use our Prep Coat on new plaster, depending on the limewash colour you’ve chosen and the look you’re aiming for. Newly plastered walls often have a soft pink or beige tone, and because our Prep Coat is water-based and plastic-free, it does not act as a colour corrector or traditional primer.
If you’re planning to use a light limewash shade, we recommend applying a good-quality primer first to even out the surface and cover any marks or stains. For darker limewash colours, applying our Prep Coat directly to the cured plaster usually works beautifully.
If you’re unsure which approach is right for your walls, our team is always happy to help, just get in touch for personalised advice.
How many coats of Prep Coat do I need, and how should I apply it?
We recommend applying one to two coats, depending on your surface. If your wall is already primed with a matte finish, one coat is usually enough. You can apply Prep Coat using either a brush or roller, depending on your preference , but here’s a little tip: if you’re aiming for more texture and movement in your limewash finish, use a brush. It will help create the soft, organic character that limewash is known for.
